First Grade I Can Read Club
Starts September 1st
Kids — First Graders are invited to join the I CAN READ CLUB, beginning September 1st and continuing through the school year. Just read a page from a book to a staff member and you are in! We’ll take your picture and hang it on our club tree. After you sign your name in the big club book you’ll receive a bookmark and a free book to keep.
Fines for Food
Monday, November 2 - Monday, November 30
AllFines — A portion of the fines collected in November will be donated to the Plano Rockin' Christmas program, which distributes food boxes to local families in need. The funds will be used to purchase essential perishable food items such as meat, produce, milk and butter.
Sunday, December 6 1:00 p.m.
Adults — A light lunch of dainty appetizers, tasty sandwiches, delicious desserts, and cozy tea will be served (don't eat before you come). Entertainment will be provided. This event is for adults and children 10 years and older. Tickets are $10.00 each and will be on sale at the Checkout Desk beginning November 7. (Please note that we anticipate tickets to sell out on the first day of sales.)
Thursday, December 10 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Adults — Come join other writers to discuss your work. Meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month in the Library Board Room. No registration required. Open to adults and high school students.
Kids' Christmas Tea
Saturday, December 12 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Kids — Join us for Christmas tea: delicious treats, a craft to take home, books to share, and of course, tea. And we would love it if you wear your holiday finery! For independent students in 1st-5th grade only. Parents and younger siblings may wait in the Kids’ Library during the program. Call 630-552-2025 to register.
New Life for Old Bags
Saturday, December 12 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Adults — Help making sleeping mats for the homeless. Volunteers will meet at the library on the 2nd Saturday of every month to make "plarn" (discarded plastic shopping bags cut into strips for crocheting). Volunteers are also needed to crochet mats at home. Donated plastic bags for the project can be dropped off at the library. Kids — We'll all read the same book before the meeting, talk about it, and have some pizza! For grades 6-8. Call 630-552-2025 to register.
Wednesday Night Book Group
Wednesday, December 16 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Adults — Books that the participants read the previous month will be discussed. THE ROSIE EFFECT by Graeme Simsion will be available at the Check-Out Desk. No registration required. Newcomers are welcome at any time.
